He is now an Emeritus Professor of the University of Reading. He has won numerous scientific and industrial awards for his research and served as President of the UK Branch of the WPSA and Senior Vice-President of the world association. His publications include books on energy requirements of poultry, poultry immunology, experimental design in the animal sciences and more than 200 refereed papers in scientific journals, about half of which deal with some aspect of photoperiodism.
